If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Grand Floridian hotel, you’ve definitely seen him or even met him! He is 92 year old greeter, Richard Gerth.

Like many Floridians he lost some or most of his possessions due to Hurricane Irma. And like many Floridians the hurricane didn’t affect his spirit or resilience.

Even though he lost a lot he’s still back at the hotel greeting all those who walk through the front door. He’s almost as iconic as the hotel, in fact Chad’s dad from Richmond, Virginia always makes it a point to visit Richard whenever he’s in town!

Richard Gerth is actually staying at the hotel because of the damage he suffered from Hurricane Irma. Disney has confirmed that they are taking care of their affected Cast Members in the best way possible.

Hurricane Irma flooded his residence ‘Good Samaritan Kissimmee Village’ and forced 450 seniors to evacuate.

Someone posted on the Disney Facebook page saying:

“Richard is now aware of fundraising that various people have organized, and would prefer any donations be made to the assisted living facility where he has residence: Good Samaritan Kissimmee Village, which is located along low lying Shingle Creek. I am not promoting any of the fundraisers or GoFundMe pages, and please be vigilant if you do contribute to one of them. Also, the management at Grand Floridian wants everyone to be aware that Cast members cannot accept gifts while on stage and on duty while on property.”

LISTEN to Chad and Jill talk about Richard below…

Next time you’re staying at the Grand Floridian or even pass by, make sure to say HI Richard!!
