The MTV Video Music Award Nominations are out and they are doing something a bit different this year. The famous music award show will no longer have gender specific category. So instead of MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR, it’s just ARTIST OF THE YEAR.
This year that specific category includes four males and two females: Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran; and two females: Ariana Grande and Lorde.
MTV said they wanted to break barriers and since they had such a great response when they did the same thing for the MTV Movie and TV Awards, they decided to follow suit with the Video Music Awards as well. The biggest snub of the year was DESPACITO, which received ZERO nominations.
There is no word on who will host the show or who will perform live. You can see all of the nominees here and see who takes home the infamous moon man on August 27th.
To follow in all of the other LIVE ACTION movies, SONY is releasing a BARBIE live action movie!!
It was originally said that AMY SCHUMER was going to star in the film, but may have recently been replaced with Anne Hathaway. Schumer is said to have backed out in March due to scheduling conflicts. Co-Director Joe Russo says, “All I can say is that when the footage comes out we want it to be exactly right so we are taking our time and working on that footage because, as you can imagine, the level of visual effects in this footage are unprecedented,” Russo said. “There are certain things in this footage at Comic Con that works for a specific Comic Con audience. But when we go wide to a wide audience, we have to make sure that footage works for a wide audience.
