The first official full length trailer of the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me, is out, and even though I typically hate seeing Tupac movie portrayals, I can honestly say that I’m excited about this movie.
In my opinion, every time I’ve seen an actor take on the role of Tupac in a movie, they ALWAYS get it wrong.
The first of these portrayals I remember seeing was in Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story, which was a decent made-for-TV movie. That is, until Lamont Bentley butchered the role of Pac. I felt the same way in the Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious. Everything was going great until Anthony Mackey’s awkward portrayal of Pac.
I didn’t even like how Tupac was portrayed in the critically acclaimed Oscar-nominated movie, Straight Outta Compton; I also hated Pac’s portrayal in Lifetime’s Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le.
When I first heard that this Tupac biopic was being produced, I just shook my head. Then I saw Demetrius Shipp, the actor charged with the task of bringing Pac to life on screen and I thought, “Wow. At least this time they picked a guy who actually looks like Pac.”
Now that the trailer is out, it looks that the powers that be may have finally succeeded in finding an actor who can deliver a believable portrayal of Pac, but of course, the preview is just that, a preview.
Check out the trailer below, and begin the countdown to June 16 to see if Demetrius Shipp’s Tupac portayal lives up to the hype.
