Yeah you wear green, drink beer and try to get lucky but do you really know everything St. Patrick’s Day?
Here are five fun St. Patrick’s Day facts you can use to impress the hottie at the bar tonight:
1) Why the pinching? Saint Patrick himself would have to deal with pinching on his feast day. His color was “Saint Patrick’s blue,” a light shade. The color green only became associated with the big day after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.
2) Here in the U.S. we all go green for St. Patrick’s Day. More than 139 million Americans plan to celebrate the Irish holiday, and are expected to spend an average of $37.92 per person.
3) Many of us, all of whom are Irish on St. Pat’s (yep, we don’t mind), will drink a good portion of their $35.37 bucks. In fact, on St. Patrick’s Day, the country spends a collective $250 million on beer alone. That’s a lot!
4) Don’t be fooled by any holiday decorations showing lady leprechauns. Sorry ladies. In traditional Irish folk tales, there are no female leprechauns, only nattily attired little guys.
5)There are over 450 churches named St. Patrick’s in the United States.
