Trey Songz’s “Chapter V” Tops Sales Charts, Slaughterhouse On Deck

Trey Songz has scored his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Chapter V, which has sold 135,000 copies in its first week. The  Eminem-backed rap supergroup Slaughterhouse is now looking to pick up where the R&B singer left off.

Slaughterhouse is projected to sell between 50,000 and 60,000 copies of their debut Welcome To Our House. This is the first official studio album from the Shady Records four-man lyrical crew that includes Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and Royce da 5’9″.

But the lyrical crew faces tough competition for the top slot. According to Billboard, Christian music act TobyMac is on projected to sell similar numbers with his latest album Eye On It.

Trey’s fifth studio effort does not represent his biggest first-week sales. That honor goes to 2010’s Passion, Pain & Pleasure, a commercial breakthrough for the Virginia native that made its debut with 240,000 units. The success of Chapter V has been fueled by Trey’s two top 10 R&B singles: “Heart Attack” (No. 3) and “2 Reasons” (No. 8).

Other noteworthy first-week entries onto the sales charts includes DJ Khaled’s Kiss the Ring at No. 4 (41,000) and Owl City’s The Midsummer Station at No. 7 (30,000). Last week’s champion, 2 Chainz’s Based on a T.R.U. Story, slips from 1 to 2, racking up 48,000 copies. And Adele’s Grammy-winning 21 has finally dropped out of the top ten, ending its 79-week run in the elite ten.  —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
