Dorothy Norwood Has New Music And A Story To Tell, “God’s Been Just That Good”

Dorothy Norwood, the 81 year-old gospel singer who is unofficially known as the ”World’s Greatest Storyteller,” recently took to the airwaves to discuss her upcoming music and share some landmark moments throughout her career.

In an interview with V-103‘s Larry Tinsley, Norwood explained why she decided to make a tribute to “Queen of Gospel” Albertina Walker for her first single off her upcoming album, God’s Been Just That Good.

“She was my best friend and mentor,” she said of Walker, who was a fellow member of The Caravans in the 1960s. “[She] paved the way for [so many]. I thought it would be great to try to keep her legacy alive…The tribute is the single. Albertina Walker deserved that.”

Norwood also spoke about how she was called on to tour with the Rolling Stones in 1972.

“Mick Jagger was in a record store in LA and he asked for some gospel album and they gave him mine and another one,” she said. ”He chose mine. And they sent me a telegram and Mick Jagger said, ‘I want you to come on the road with us and open up our show and tell a story.”

She went on to talk about her time as a performer during segregation, where she had to “go around to the back door” of restaurants. But she said she was thankful for having to live through it.

“If it wasn’t for those days, it wouldn’t have brought me to the place were we are now,” she said. “And I’m still around to enjoy the glory.”

With five Gold-certified albums to her credit, Norwood will be releasing God’s Been Just That Good on March 20.
