After watching OWN Presents Master Class featuring [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm], it’s apparent that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] is in a “class of his OWN”. I can honestly say that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] is probably one of the most intelligent musicians of our time. With brilliant quotes, outlooks on life, and words of encouragement, Jay-Z’s Master Class made for a beautifully directed documentary that cannot be overlooked!

This documentary gave me a whole new perspective not just on Jay’s artistry but his character. Jay talked about his childhood, recognizing his talent, finding himself as an artist, his determination to succeed, the values and integrity that were instilled in him from an early age, and much more.

[pullquote quote=”In the beginning I always looked at myself as an outsider to the industry in a way. I started my own record label I was never signed to a major, so I was always outside of the cool club.” credit=”Jay-Z “]

Anyone who follows Jay’s career can vouch that he’s not much of  a talker so to see him talking about his element, family, and success was quite interesting. I was truly fascinated by this documentary and how humble of a person he is. Watching the documentary made me appreciate him so much more as a grounded artist.

“If I was going to be successful I had to be successful at myself”, said [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] as he spoke about the ups and downs of his rap career. “I feel sorry for someone who has to walk out of the house everyday as someone else”, he added.

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] exemplified himself as a wise MC. Watching the documentary confirmed what I already knew; he’s the best rapper alive.

Anyone who has aspirations of becoming a rap artist can learn from this documentary. It goes much deeper than just rhymes, poetry, and punchlines. His intelligence is the reason for his success as a rapper. His strategy is of brilliance being that he knows exactly when to stand up, when to sit down, when to be visible, and when to disappear.Being that he has conquered all of these strategies, he’s become untouchable in hip hop.

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] has many exciting things to look forward to in 2011 including moving the New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn, the launch of his 40/40 sports bar in airports around the country, and his next release with friend [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kanye West[/lastfm] ‘Watch The Throne’ dropping on 3/1 through Def Jam.

This was probably one of the absolute best hip hop documentaries that I have seen to date. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
